Travertine Tile Production

Travertine Tile

Travertine tile (tile )production has been one of the building stones of history. Italian travertine, such as Roman Travertine or Navonna Travertine, has been quarried around the Rome and Sienna area. Durango travertine has been quarried in Mexico, and Ivory Travertine in Türkiye. There are also American travertine quarries around New Mexico, Idaho and Colorado.

Traditional travertine quarrying had a few metal tools and primitive methods of splitting blocks and shaping them. Old quarrymen would dress the blocks and sell them. Today, travertine flooring production is very different. A modern travertine quarry is carried out with fully automated production around the mountain. Giant blocks are cut into large shaped blocks according to the travertine tile size and sent to the factory at once. They are then processed with cutting or honing machines.
