Filled and unfilled travertine
The natural voids of travertine are treated in two ways. On a filled travertine surface, these voids are closed with a filler compatible with the stone; this makes the surface smooth and reduces dirt retention. Unfilled travertine keeps its natural cavities and has a more rustic character; it is generally used as a decorative texture on the exterior of the sink.

Which materials go well with a travertine sink?
The warm tone of travertine harmonizes strongly with natural materials. Light oak or teak countertops, lime-painted walls, linen curtains and handmade tiles together with travertine create a calm and cohesive bathroom. For faucets, brushed brass, bronze or matte black tones balance travertine's beige palette. Surface choice
Honed travertine has a matte and velvety texture; this surface best reflects the natural character of the stone. Polished travertine, on the other hand, deepens its tones as it catches light and gives a more refined look.
